Welcome to the Kerikeri New World Rotary Garden Safari

29th and 30th October 2011

Rotary Club of Kerikeri

latest news

It’s Wednesday and a beautiful day in Kerikeri today and just as well as the 18 owners of properties do the last minute tidying up of their properties in preparation for the safari on Saturday.

Windows are being washed, paths water-blasted, pools cleaned and lawns mown. Lawns… my goodness how they have grown in the past two weeks. Must be this wonderful weather we are experiencing. But it has meant the weeds are out in force as well.

I know all this, because my garden is being presented this weekend in the safari. I can’t believe I allowed myself to be talked into this… I have had to take the week off work just to get organised! Well, you can make up your own mind when you visit. We are having the café here this year and the Kerikeri Rotary Club are providing the food… hence the reason my garden is in the safari. And there will be good food; there’s (more than) one thing this Rotary Club is good at and that is social entertaining.

So be prepared to be ‘wowed’ at Garden No 6 by the good food, the good ambience, the live entertainment between 11am and 1pm on Saturday and some of the wonderful scarecrows that are, at present, being presented in town.

If you have kids – get them to download the scarecrow competition form here. Apart from that, it is back to work. Oh, and I look forward to meeting you all in the weekend. Kind regards, Vicki

The entry forms are due back at McFadziens Pharmacy the week after the Garden Safari, and the person who has found the most scarecrows will win a digital camera and accessories to the value of $185. Just a small hint... there are just over 50 scarecrows to find, so happy hunting! And to help you get started, meet Poppa Pill from McFadziens Pharmacy, the creation of the wonderful team@Mcfadziens.

What a fantastic turnout of enthusiastic gardeners to our 2010 Garden Safari. We were blessed with good weather - not too hot, not too cold - definitely a testament to the ‘winterless north’ label that the Bay of Islands so enjoys.

So join us again at the end of October for a weekend of inspiration and sheer pleasure as we present another array of amazing gardens in sub-tropical Kerikeri.

Planning is already underway for this 24th event and through our generous sponsors and money raised, the Rotary Club of Kerikeri will continue to support it’s local, national and international projects.

Keep an eye out on our ‘latest news’ column as we will progressively showcase some of the wonderful gardens our garden visitors will be able to enjoy in the 2011 event.

This year we are running a scarecrow competition for children. Many retailers in the Kerikeri area will be making a scarecrow and having it on display from the 17th October through until the Garden Safari. Each scarecrow will be named and children will have to find the name of the scarecrows and the name of the business to go into a draw.

The generous support of our sponsors, garden owners and the wonderful enthusiasm of our garden visitors (that’s you!!) make the event such a success so start making your plans now - gather your friends together and put the 29th and 30th October on your calendar now.
